Undying love
A Dragons Tale by Richy Vella
The old Dragon, awoke from his sleep then went to the Grove to see the humans dance. When he arrived his heart pounded like that of a young Dragon. For a brief moment he saw a fair Lady. The Lady looked like his beloved Legend, who departed a few days earlier for a quest. But when he came closer shouting “Legend my love!” the Lady turned, and he saw it was not his love. Shamed and with pain in his heart, he left the Grove. Down the stairs in the direction of the Drum circle he went. When going thru the gate, he could hear the fair creatures singing and laughing on the beat of the Elven drums. He loved the Drum circle, but this night he could not go there for his sadness was to great. He took a right turn, and walked tom the Fae garden. But even here, he could not find peace and walked in to the direction of the Library. And there by the falls, just before entering the cave that leads to the Library, he stopped. He looked to the shrine by the falls. Memories came to his mind, for it was here where he kissed his beloved Legend, for the first time. Tears where running down his ancient scaled cheeks. He closes his eyes, picturing the moment they kissed. He walked towards the falls, and lay down on the spot where the beautiful memory was made. He closes his eyes, and with pain in his old heart, the ancient Dragon of the Mist felt asleep.
The ancient Dragon is sleeping, but is restless. A Fae of the Mist passed him and saw the nightmare the ancient one is having. She woke him. Asking the old Dragon if he was doing well. The old Dragon had a frightened look on his ancient head. For had dreamed his beloved Legend would not return to the realm of Avilion. The old Dragon feared he would not hold his beloved Legend anymore. The near thought of not be able to hold her tight, to kiss her sweet lips or just to look at her, made his heart cry. The good Fae comfort the old Dragon, telling him it all will be alright and that she will return to him. The old Dragon smiled to the Fae, thanking her for her compassion. Still the old Dragon will not rest until he holds his beloved Legend in his arms. For he would give up his life eternal for the fair Lady Legend. The old Dragon went to the Grove and transformed in to his human form. Standing on the balcony of the Grand Ballroom, looking out for is beloved Legend to return…
Many hours the old Dragon stood on the balcony, waiting for his love to return. Day became night, night became day. But no sign of the fair Lady Legend. His mind was saying she would not return, but his ancient heart knew she would return to him. The old Dragon senses his beloved Legend is missing her loved one as well. He knew she would do all that she could to be with him. The thought of her wanting to return to him, being in his arms, watching the sunset on there special retreat, is giving him comfort. Giving him the power to wait for her. Giving him the strength to stay on that balcony, dreaming of the one he love. Dreaming of dancing in the early morning here at the place the both love, the Grand Ballroom at Avilion Grove, there home…
The days where passing by, the old Dragon still on the balcony of the Grand Ballroom, waiting for his love to return, did not move at all. He did not eat, drink or sleep. The visitors, hosts and hostesses talked about it all day. It was the talk of the day within the borders of Avilion. The news of the love sick Dragon reached the Lord and Lady of the Land. They send there best Ancients to the Grove, in order to speak with the old Dragon. But the old Dragon would not move and told the Ancient of the Mist he would be here when the one he loves returned. All the creatures of the Mist felt sorry for the old Dragon. The Drum circle was silenced, the Dragons of the Mist singing there ancient song of lost love, filled the air. A sense of darkness felt over Avilion, it felt like all the love was gone. The grass was no longer bright green. The water of the falls wasn’t blue anymore. No more giggling of the Fae. Then the wind came. The old Dragon looked up to the sky. He closes his ancient eyes. News, the wind is bringing news from the one he gave his heart to. The fair winds told the ancient dragon that the fair Lady Legend was well. The fair winds told him she was coming home, coming to him. The fair winds told him his beloved Legend is longing for his love. Her heart cries for him, for she felt his pain and sadness. After hearing this joyous news, the old Dragon opened his eyes. His bright blue eyes where shining. His Inner Flame burned deep within him. And for the first time since his beloved Legend departed, the old Dragon smiled. With all his might, he roared over the lands. His brothers and sisters responded. The air was filled with roaring Dragons. Suddenly the birds started to sing, the water at the falls regained there blue colour. The giggling of the Fea returned and the air was once again filled with the sounds of Avilion. The first rays of sunlight touched the old Dragon in his face. The warm morning sun made him smile even more. People who looked up to the balcony where saying the old Dragon had a kind of glow over him. Still the old Dragon is waiting on the balcony of the Grand Ballroom, but now he knows his beloved Legend is returning soon. Soon she will be in his arms, soon they will dance, soon he will kiss her sweet lips here on the balcony of the Grand Ballroom. And with that thought, the old Dragon waited in peace.
The time has come, he felt it. He could sense her presence, she is close. His heart pounding inside his chest, his Inner Flame burning, like it never burned before. His bright blue eyes is searching. His Dragon vision is looking all over for her. Still his beloved Legend has not entered the realm of Avilion, though she is close. Every step she makes and coming closer to Avilion, the old Dragon could feel her presence growing stronger. Restlessly he stands on the balcony of the Grand Ballroom. Impatience came over him. He did not even noticed the turmoil inside the Grand Ballroom, where the Ancients of the Mist are trying to catch a wizard who is casting spells that make the guests of the Ballroom look like Drows. The old Dragon only has notice for the one he loves.
Another day passes. She is near, he could sense it, he feels her presence. Suddenly his smile fainted. He could feel she was near, but pain came to his ancient heart for he felt the one he loves was hurt. Not in heart, but her body was weak. The fair Lady Legend was ill. The old Dragon transformed in to his Dragon form and took off in to the thin Avilion sky. He roamed the borders of Avilion, in search of his beloved Legend. His search took him to Avilion Isle. And there on the shores he stopped. He searched the horizon. Looking over the great water. Focusing his Dragon vision. He could feel she was there, she was alone, scared and weak of illness. And there off the shores of the Isle, he spotted a small boat. He took of with a mighty roar. He flew to the little boat. And there, on the bottom of the boat he saw his beloved Legend. Quickly he transformed and jumped in to the boat. She was unconscious, a fever burned her. The old Dragon took some cloth, dipped it in to the great water and tapped her forehead. The fair Lady Legend mumbled “My love, where are you my love?” The old Dragon smiled and he spoke words of comfort to her. The one he loved was in need a Druid. The old Dragon transformed once again hovering above the small boat. Gently he took his beloved Legend in his claws. With all his might, he flew back to the Isle and straight to the Drum Circle. Gently he lay her down by the fire and quickly transformed in to his human form. Holding his beloved Legend, he called upon the creatures of the Mist to send word to the druids. A member of the Fae took off to go find the druids. Caressing her, holding her tight, afraid of losing her he looked upon her face. The creatures of the Mist stood around them, feeling sorry for them. His ancient heart was in pain. The druids arrived quickly, but to him it seems like eternity. The druids took his beloved Legend and placed her on the table. He plead to the druids to help her. The druids did not speak and looked at the fair Lady Legend. Mumbling among each other the leader of the druids spoke to the old Dragon. The Lady Legend has been poisoned he was told. No cure is know to the druids, for we do not know this poison. The old Dragon could not believe the news he heard. There must be a way to make her well. Angry and full of pain he roared. All the creatures of the Mist where scared, for once they heard the kind Dragon in all his anger. Then a small creature came to the old Dragon, she placed her hand on his cheek and spoke to him. Ancient Dragon, not all hope is gone, she said. There is a way to retrieve your loved one. Thru his tears he looked at the small creature, for he knew her voice very well. It was the Goddess of the Fae her self. She smiled upon him. The old Dragon felt on his knees. Greeted her with the up most respect. The Goddess smiled upon her old friend. Rise my friend, she told him. The Goddess spoke to all the Fae. Hear me my children, for this ancient Dragon has been kind to all. Pure in heart and spirit. A friend to all of us. It is time we helped him. All of the Fae bowed to the Goddess. The Goddess asked the old Dragon to place his beloved Legend in the middle of the Drum Circle. The old Dragon could not leave his beloved Legend all alone. He took her on his lap, holding her tight. All of the Fae where standing around them. The Goddess spoke in fae, calling upon her children. A bright white light came over the fae. Magic happened right in front of them. The wings of the Fae flutter, producing Fae dust. Like small stars the dust raised up in to the sky. A dome was formed over the Drum Circle. Within the dome, the Fae where singing ancient chants. The old Dragon felt his beloved Legend burning. A white glow came over her. She was raised by an unseen force. Hanging in the air, surrounded by chanting Fae, the Goddess came to the Old Dragon. She touched his chest, a warm feeling came over him. She spoke to him. Ancient Dragon, you have been a guardian of the Fae all your life. Lets us repay you for your kindness. But you have to give me a part of your own soul to heal the one of your beloved Legend. The old Dragon told the Goddess he will do anything to regain his beloved Legend. The Goddess warned the old Dragon that by giving up a part of his soul, he no longer will be gifted with life eternal. The old Dragon spoke from the bottom of his ancient heart and told the Goddess he would die here and now, if that is what it takes to heal the one he loves. The Goddess smiled and spoke words with a tongue that no longer exists. One hand raised up to the fair Lady Legend and the other one she placed on the chest of the old Dragon. And from her hands a bright white light came. The fair Lady Legend was glowing like the northern star. Sparks of pure magic surrounded her. The old Dragon felt the greatest pain he had ever felt. His chest burned, his Inner Flame was fainting and finally stopped burning. No longer will he be gifted with life eternal. Then the fair Lady Legend stopped glowing and was lowered back in to the arms of the old Dragon. He looked upon her face, slowly her eyes opened. The old Dragon smiled. And greeted his beloved with a kiss. His ancient heart pounding, his Inner Flame no longer burning. But his beloved Legend returned and is well. The fair Lady Legend was holding her beloved Dragon tight. She smiled and tears where running down her soft cheeks. The dome of the Fae, dissolved. All the creatures cheered of joy. The old Dragon looked up to the crowd but the Goddess was gone. The old Dragon and his beloved Legend danced the rest of the night. Sharing there love for each other. For there love will remain for eternity…
